How can we improve Metatogger?

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

  1. Open folders - keyboard shortcut and recently opened list

    Hi,

    Regarding the action of opening a folder to load its files to MT:

    1. Please add a keyboard shortcut to run this action of selecting a folder
    2. Please add to the open folder UI a list of the most recent folders that were loaded. it will help us to quickly re-load recent folders.

  2. Add a "Clear" button for each file properties section

    Hi,

    When editing the file's pane of "Selected file properties", it will be good to have a "Clear" button at the top of each section, that will empty all the fields of that section, which will help us clear these items much quicker, instead of passing each one, select all and then delete.

  3. offer to d/l database on 1st install

    offer to d/l database on 1st install.
    Error message:
    "The database is not available or ready. Please check its status in the first tab."
    is poorly worded. It does not indicate the local db is missing.
    1.) "not available or ready" suggests a connectivity issue.
    2.) "first tab" should read "File > Metatogger. File is a menu option not a tab. The actual lang specific spelling is worth looking up.

  5. There is no option to automatically search for lyrics

    Please, I need this option. It was the best feature the app had.

  6. Please add support for .dsf files from SACD rip.

    Allow Metatogger to read and process high-res .dsf files. I'm not a programmer but I'm sure someone out there can figure it out.

  8. Update the database at first startup and in other schedules

    Hi,

    After MT first run, after the first setup, or after upgrade setup - the database is empty and the user is not informed of this.

    Consider auto-update it at such events and possibly add options to auto-update at "every MT run" and/or at set intervals (once a day, once a week and so on).

  12. Let the user the possibilty to move the "CoverCache" and "MusicBrainz.db" to another location

    Hello,
    Can you make a option to move these big folders/files in another disk? I tried a shortcut (.ink) but this don't work.

  13. Improve saving speed, parallelize and/or provide pausing.

    I have my music collection on a SAMBA share. The saving speed of Metatogger is painfully slow. I did some semi-manual edit and I am now running save all for more than 12 h (not yet finished). The througbut is currently only 1,5 MBit, even on my wifi I should at least get 10x that speed( I could run some benchmarks against other tools if unconfirmed)

    If speed is unfixable. It would be great if you could provide batch possibilities. The perfect thing would be provide an open source retagging script that works on the saved workspace or any other…

  17. plugin that fetches earliest recording date per-track, ideal for greatest-hits albums

    I'm testing a lot of music taggers in Windows and one thing they all lack is to add the original date of a recording.
    When playing a greatest hits album of the 80s which was put on the market in 2005 you have a problem because suddenly all these 80s song have a date of 2005. see https://community.metabrainz.org/t/how-to-get-picard-writing-the-original-release-date-year-of-a-recording/355388
    Luckily, I found a tagger (beets) that searches for the original date, but it is a command line driven approach.
    I hope Metatogger can implement what they cooked togheter.

  18. Add filter by 'count' of a group

    My collection is a mix of albums and singles (1-4 tracks). For an artist, I'd like to arrange the albums in a folder per album, but the singles in together in one folder. To achieve this, it would be helpful to identify 'albums' that have 4 or less tracks. I can group by album, which shows the count of tracks per group, so I'd like to be able to filter by the count.

    AdminCyber Sinh (Webmaster, Luminescence Software) responded

    There is no portable version of Metatogger because some important checks are performed on the system at install time, such as verifying software prerequisites, downloaded and installed if necessary (just the Visual C ++ Runtime in the latest version).

    2021 update : with .NET self-contained deployment option, the system software requirements to use Metatogger are becoming less and less constraining.

    Furthermore, the configuration file is stored in the user’s home directory, and not in the folder from which the software is launched. These files are only deleted when the software is uninstalled.

    Using Metatogger in portable mode would not offer an optimal user experience.
